The Sixth Sense

The 6th Sense is a miles better film than I was hoping it'd be. Though I was impressed with Bruce Willis ' performance in Day of the Jackal, I feared that it'd be an one time affair. As it is, he must understand that his contemporary, restrained performances create a good tension in the mind of the spectator. After viewing these glorious films, I'm now a real Bruce Willis fan. But great as his performance in 6th Sense was, it was actually the young Haley Joel Osment as the haunted Cole Seal the film belonged to, which was a fabulous work of acting from one so young. His range of emotion, from fear and angriness, to weakness and moody isolation, was superb. He and Willis as the unsettled Dr.Malcolm Crowe mixed to perform in one of the very finest horror / suspense films I've ever seen, with a now famous surprise ending tossed in for good measure, ( apropos in Alfred Hitchcock's century year ). 6th Sense starts swiftly with Willis ' psychiatrist personality getting shot by a previous patient in his home as his frightened better half looks on.

The tale abruptly shifts to several months later as the well-intentioned doctor, now seemingly recovered from the gunshot wound to his stomach, and gears up to take on the case of the above discussed young man, who is extraordinarily disturbed but a good person at heart.Maybe a bit too late in the flick, after the common assortment of paranormal situations concerning the young man, and the standard interplay and friction between he and his ma and the good doctor, we discover what is truly troubling him : he will be able to see and communicate with dead folks, something that frightens him such a lot that he'll only confide in the doctor after the doc confides in him that his once satisfied wedding is suffering extraordinarily, as it appears the doc isn't spending sufficient time at home or paying enough attention to his interesting spouse. ( Don't worry. If you've not yet seen 6th Sense, everything till now is just about standard and foreseeable ).

After this emotional fence is crossed nevertheless, the tale picks up and from then till picture's end we are treated to a few of the best horror / suspense ever recorded for the cinema screen. The last 0.33 of the picture is the rationale 6th Sense stands out and shines far brighter than most films of this brand. Due to this, I won't relate what occurs from this point on, and actually won't give the ending away. 6th Sense is a 4 star film which luxuriously merits your viewing presence.
