The Omen(1976)

The Omen is a 1976 horror film directed by Richard Donner Lee Remick, David Warner, Harvey Stephens, Billie Whitelaw, Patrick Troughton, Martin Benson, and Leo McKern. The basis of The Omen comes from the end times prophecies of fundamentalist Christianity. Not like the left in the dust series, this film had no plain evangelistic desire and its reading of the predictions is reasonably negligible, using them only as a grounds from which to build the bigger plot.

The tale tells of the youth of Damien Thorn, who was switched when born with the murdered kid of a loaded American politician. Damien's family is not aware that he's really the offspring of Devil and certain to become the Antichrist. The flick followed at the tail end of a cycle of 'demonic kid ' films like Rosemary's Baby, I don't really want to Live, To The Demon A Child , and most significantly The Exorcist, and was itself followed by follow ups ( see later ) and a considerable number of copycat films e. G the Italian-made Kirk Douglas film Armageddon 2k. As a guideline, the children anxious grow older as the cycle continues, from the newly born of 'Rosemary ' to the teenagers of such films as Carrie and The Ire ( 1978 ).

The Omen was remarkable for its chillingly effective use of symbolism , for example the blotch of the number 666 on Damien's scalp, the effective use of crucifixes and statuary for foreshadowing, and the wallpapering of a room with pages from a Bible to hold off evil spirits. Some critics said the movie's try to portray apocalyptical symbology reflected the absence of an educated grounding in real auspicious texts.Nonetheless , the picture has chilled and shocked generations of spectators. The motion picture boasted one of the most upsetting scenes in cinema as a personality whose face appeared joyous hanged herself at a party attended by small children.

The score features a powerful choral segment, with a foreboding Latin chant. The desist to the chant is, "Sanguis bebimus, corpus edimus" ( Latin, "We drink the blood, we eat the flesh" ), interspersed with cries of "Ave Satani!" ( Latin, "Hail, Satan!" ). Apart from the choral work, the score includes lyrical themes showing the pleasing home life of the Thorn family, which are contrasted with the more upsetting scenes of the family's clash with malevolent. During the course of filming, the production was tormented with a collection of "curses", that the crew recommended were maybe mystical forces making an attempt to forestall the filming of the film.

Such "curses" included : the aeroplane for scriptwriter David Seltzer was struck by lightning ; Richard Donner's hotel was bombed by the Temporary IRA ; Gregory Peck canceled a flight to Israel, for the aeroplane he'd chartered to collapse, murdering all on board ; and on the 1st day of shooting, the principal members of the crew survived a head-on auto crash.
